In this limit, the force acting between the particles is treated as a random force. In contrast to this, in the limit of small particle-in–contact, the random motion can be described by a self-energy term, which is a random force that is not a random force in the limit. The random walk is thus a random process in the limit where the particle-surface interaction is strong, and the random force is different from the random force acting on a particle.
